Headphone audio isn't completely stereo... but not mono either

I did a left/right stereo sound test with my headphones on this laptop, and when all the sound is supposed to be coming through on the left ear, about 20% still comes through on the right ear, and vice versa - when all the sound is supposed to be in the right ear, it's somewhat audible in the left ear too.

The option for mono audio is not on. When I plug my headphones into a different computer and repeat the same sound test, the sound comes entirely through one ear or the other. I did sound tests with both YouTube and Audacity. The problem is this laptop, not my headphones or the sound source.

I have an Inspiron 14 7000 running Windows 10.

What fixed it for me is disabling the maxxaudio pro from Dell Audio in control panel

To start with, get to this screen:

Next, open up the headphones device (double click on it in the list) and go to the 'advanced' tab:

Deselect 'enable audio enhancements', click apply and then hit ok.
