Inspiron 13 7000 series

My laptop developed a small hairline crack in the screen and I have always been gentle with it. The laptop was working OK and I ignored the crack in the screen. However now the laptop doesn't switch on and it does if I switch in on and off 2 or three times. If I move the screen or touch the mouse I get a alternating pattern on the screen of different colors. What could be causing this. I updated the BIOS and other drivers. What do I do now please?

Hold D through powerup - this will test the screen.  You should see a series of screen test images.

Hi

The screen changes color red, green, blue, white many times. When I take my finger of the D button it turned  black and switched itself off.

That means the screen, though cracked - is OK.

Unplug the system, remove the battery (or disconnect it) and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall the memory module(s).

Try powering up on AC only - no battery. If it will, reconnect the battery and try again.  If that stops powerup, the battery is bad.

If the system still won't power up, the mainboard is bad.
