Inspiron 13 7370 - Audio & Microphone Problem

Hello everyone, I'd like to talk about a problem since I got this computer. Any audio was crackling, lagging and stuttering from both speakers and headsets, and headset microphone sound was also distorted; then I've read at this forum to change my audio driver from 'Realtek Audio' to 'High Definition Audio'. It was solved the crackling problem, however it created an another one.

Now I cannot access MaxxAudioPro pop-up window when I plug in a headset; thus I cannot use my headset microphone and the build-in microphone is not enough since it is too far away.

If there are any solution to fix my problem I would be very glad to know that Dell is supporting their customers.

Maxx audio needs the Realtek drivers.

Popping and crackling is an often reported problem on many computer forums.  All brands of PC's, not a Dell specific problem.   There is no "one fix" for this.  Many things can lead to it although Wi-Fi is one often reported reason.

Sound is on a shared Interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device and that can cause some of it.  Just the fact that sound is considered a low priority item in Windows leads to some potential problems.

Are you sure the plugged in headset/microphone does not work without MaxxAudio?  It may still be working but not the pop up.   I thought that was a function of Realtek rather than MaxxAudio but since you don't have Realtek installed you don't have jack sensing.

The Windows installed High Definition Audio driver is a generic, basic function, driver.  I would install the latest Realtek driver from the Dell downloads (not some other Realtek version).  Also, have the latest Win 10 V1903 with the KB4501375 installed as this fixes audio latency problems. Then try to isolate your problem.  One program that we use in the audio industry (I have a recording studio) is the free Resplendence Latency Mon program.  After you have Realtek reinstalled (and PC rebooted) download and run Latency Mon and see what it tells you.

Re: Inspiron 13 7370 - Audio & Microphone Problem

Hello and thanks for your interest. I have updated my windows to version 1903, but with KB4506991 and KB4503308, not with KB4501375 u said. And I have downloaded and installed the latest Realtek driver from Dell;

First the mic recording problem was solved but then it messed up the volume levels. All the sounds coming from my pc were like the sound level at its max. Then, I re-install the driver again, now the sound is okay but microphones are again off.

I ran the Latency Mon and here's the conclusion:

Your system seems to be having difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:02:01 (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

I think it concluded the same thing with you, about cpu usage priority and want me to turn off my battery saver. I don't want to use my pc with fast draining battery. Do you think are there any other solutions?

First go to the Settings Panel/System/Sound  and check the Input Device. Should be your Microphone (or Stereo Mix).

The recommendations from Latency Mon do not really offer any advice.  That is a "stock" response and generally is not applicable to specific problems.  Look at the display and items such as Page Faults and see if anything sticks out.  Disable Wi-Fi and then run Latency Mon and see if that changes anything.

Re: Inspiron 13 7370 - Audio & Microphone Problem

Thanks much for the answer. I think I've figured out my problem. Yet I don't know how to solve it.

When I use Realtek driver, not the windows' generic one, and when I use my laptop unplugged with battery saver; I'm encountering with the listed problems.

It has to be some compatibility promblem between realtek driver, battery saver program and the windows.

Re: Inspiron 13 7370 - Audio & Microphone Problem

There is a recent version of the Dell Power Management program.

Install that (if you don't already have it) and see if it helps.

I don't use that power management on my Inspiron 15 5577 (gaming laptop).
