Inspiron 15-7559 upgrade to M.2 SSD only
Hello,
I have an Inspiron 15-7559 that came with a 128GB M.2 SSD and a 1TB HDD. I would like to upgrade the M.2 SSD to a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SATA M.2 SSD and only use it and remove the existing HDD. Is this supported and possible? If so, how is the best way to move the existing files on the existing SSD and HDD to the new only M.2 SSD?
Thanks!

While I'd like to do something similar to my Inspiron 3583 sometime in the future, I can't say for certain which M.2 cards will work. To my understanding, M.2 2280 is what (at least) my model supports. Also, a M.2 NVMe SSD will provide slightly faster transfer speeds than a M.2 SATA SSD. If you go with a M.2 SATA SSD, than you would be better off just to go with a regular 2.5" SSD drive.
As for moving files from one drive to another, you can use MiniTool Partition Wizard to copy all the existing partitions over from the old drive. Please backup your personal files as a precaution before applying any changes.

First off, does you notebook support m.2 SATA or NVME? this is very important. NVME if about 4 or 5 times faster than m.2 SSD Being limited by the SATA controller where as NVME is PCIe Bus. So If your notebook supports NVME you should be looking at an m.2 NVME Samsung 970 Evo not only much faster but cheaper. With the money you save you can replace your Hard drive with a 2.5 notebook SATA SSD. a direct replacement Samsung 960 EVO 2.5 format.
Your OS SSD would best be Cloned or Imaged by Macrium Reflect free
And a video on how to accomplish the Clone
MR is free for Clones, Disk/SSD Images and Differential backups and restores. the paid for versions allows scheduled back ups and Tech Support,, Support Forum
As for your data on your Hard drive, this can copied to your new OS SSD or to your Hard drive replacement SSD. If transferring to a new separate SSD you can clone or Image and Restore to your new SSD. You can do the same with the OS SSD if you after setting up and booting create a 2nd partition say The Clone or Image and restore. I say and recommend Image and restore or clone as it is much faster the Drag and drop. for instance a 256gb drag and drop transfer of data would take a few hours where as restoring the same Image or clone would take maybe 15 minutes.

a nvme ssd should work fine, this question was asked few years back for the 7567 and confirmed that a Samsung NVME drive works. I have a cheapass nvme drive now from AliExpress and even that works just fine with 2.1GB read and about 1.6GB write ( No dram ssd ). They are just reliable as cheap non dram ssd's. Haven't had any issues with the SSD after 3TBW. Got one up to 145TB before it died.
The stock X400 m.2 it came with can only do 80TBW.
Nowadays a brandname ssd isn't really more expensive anymore.

The Inspiron 7559 does support one M.2 drive, but SATA only -- it has no PCIe/NVMe support.
