Inspiron 15 7573 - touchpad drivers randomly degrade

I've had a bizarre issue with my inspiron laptop for the last year or so. If I go for more than an hour or so without using the touchpad in a session, it'll shut off completely. When I restart the laptop, the touchpad begins working again, but the touchpad is now only capable of scrolling and left-clicking - touch gestures don't work, right/middle clicks dont work, etc.

I've been able to soft-fix the issue by deleting and re-installing my touchpad drivers each time it happens, but the problem always returns after within a day or two. I assume the issue is driver-related, as my touchpad drivers revert to 'PS/2 Compatible Mouse' after each restart. Is there any way to permanently fix this issue so the drivers don't fail and require constant re-installing?
