Inspiron 5570- SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools downloads but not installing

I don't use it.

I download and install drivers from Dell.com

Did your SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14954 update ever install successfully? I see that Dell employee @DELL-Chris M marked my 30-Apr-2021 post as the solution but I want to be sure that my suggestion actually helped.

Not being able to install the current Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14954 (a.k.a. Dell SupportAssist Remediation / Dell System Repair) might not be a bad thing given all the bugs that have been reported for this version. I'm beginning to wonder now if Dell has finally pulled v5.4.1.14954 from their backend servers.

There is a serious bug in v5.4.1.14954 where installation may wipe partitions higher than C:\ drive (see balji's 05-May-2021 SupportAssist Deleted My Partitions While Installing OS Recovery). Dell has acknowledged this problem and Dell employee @NikhilKiroula posted on 15-Jul-2021 in DELLKaren's thread Problems with SupportAssist 3.10.0.47 that "We have removed System Repair settings from SA from 3.9.2 release onwards due to some major issue with SA OS Recovery tool during partitioning process".

There are other minor bugs reported for the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools. For example, see my 02-May-2021 post in DELLKaren's "Successful Application Reconfiguration" and SupportAssist how creation of system repair points (snapshots) by the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools can trigger a flood of Successful Application Reconfiguration messages in the Event Viewer and the Win 10 Reliability Monitor (Control Panel | System and Security | Security and Maintenance | Reliability Monitor). Dell employee NikhilKiroula confirmed <here> on 01-Jul-2021 that the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools is triggering these events.

I've decided it's not safe to be running the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14954 on my system so I've changed the Startup Type of my Dell SupportAssist Remediation service to DISABLED (Start | Windows Administrative Tools | Services | Dell SupportAssist Remediation) so it doesn't start at boot-up while I decide if it the entire program should be permanently removed.

Note that I regularly back up all my personal data to a removable USB backup drive using a free utility called Karen's Replicator and have enabled the built-in Windows 10 System Restore feature (disabled in Win 10 by default). I also use Macrium Reflect Free to create the occasional full disk image of my entire hard drive that I save on the same removable USB backup drive, and I created a bootable USB emergency rescue media with Macrium Reflect that I can use to boot my computer and re-image my entire hard drive to an earlier date if disaster ever strikes. With these precautions in place it's not necessary for me to have Dell's SupportAssist OS Recovery tools running in the background on my system and creating Dell system repair points (snapshots) for emergency recovery.

It is probably a waste of bandwidth to issue a nearly 1 GB operating system image that will be outdated in a matter of months, and b/c SAOSRT now has the option to download the most recent OS version anyway.

Are you certain about that? I received an ~ 350 MB update for the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.3.15135 on 29-Jul-2021 that updated Dell SupportAssist Remediation (listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features) to v5.4.3.15135. When enabled, this software creates system repair points (snapshots) each day that are stored in a hidden folder at C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\SystemRepair\ and can be used to roll your system back a few days or weeks if it becomes unstable (i.e., similar to the way that the built-in Windows System Restore feature works but with a few extra bells and whistles). I haven't seen any official announcement that this software is obsolete and will no longer be updated via utilities like SupportAssist or Dell Update.

If I understand correctly, the Dell OS Recovery Tool v2.3.6096.0 (not the SupportAssist Recovery Tools v5.x mentioned above) you are referring to that is available at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/drivers/osiso/recoverytool is just a small 22 MB utility that can be used to create a bootable USB recovery drive. If your computer ever fails to boot from your hard drive this USB recovery media can be used to boot up your computer and "remove all data and software from your PC's hard drive and restore the factory-installed operating system."
