Inspiron 5593, mic not working in Google Meet or Zoom?

Question

When I'm on a Google Meet or Zoom call, the mic never works and no one is able to hear me? However, when I test my microphone, it appears to be working. I have troubleshot the issue many times but it always says that nothing is wrong. This is without headsets/headphones.

The Inspiron 5593 microphone passed all Dell diagnostic testing given by the DELL-Cares agent. The Inspiron 5593 microphone was correctly set as the default Sound input device.

kvst reported to DELL-Cares agent in a private message that following the instructions in this Zoom help center article corrected the issue.

Additionally the laptop is relatively new - purchased in April, 6 months ago.
