Inspiron 7368, keyboard backlight issue after bios upgrade

Jump to solution

Hi guys,

a few weeks ago I decided to let windows update service to run. The installed updates included a firmware / BIOS upgrade to version 1.18.0. As a result of the upgrade, the keyboard backlight stopped working as it did prior to the update, as follows;

1 - the backlight is off when booting up, whereas before it was on right after pressing the power button. The only way to set it on is by pressing F10 key, however the backlight dimming when idle is not working anymore.

2 - after waking up from sleep mode, the backlight is off and it goes on only if I touch the trackpad but it doesn't stay on once I start using the keyboard. Pressing F10 has no effect, there is no on/off switch.

Solutions I tried so far (after reading various posts), but with no results:

- downgrading the BIOS from 1.18.0 to 1.17.0, 1.16.0 all the way down to 1.10.0

- using the latest Dell Command | Configure utility (v4.1) to enable the backlight timer on AC or battery

Any ideas of how to fix this annoying issue is greatly appreciated. Same goes for clues about getting the original factory BIOS version for this 2016 Inspiron 13 - 7368, 2 in 1.

Thank you !

3 days later, finally the issue was solved.

If you find yourself in a scenario where your BIOS is upgraded and for some reason it looks like your keyboard backlight stopped working, unless you touch the trackpad (after waking up from sleep mode) .. well, you better read this article listed below. This is what did the trick for me.

Have you tried the Fn and right arrow key which switches between lighting states?

yes, I tried it, it doesn't do anything.

Thanks

p.s. forgot to mention, I've also done a factory reset, of course with no result, since the reset is not addressing the BIOS downgrade / upgrade

Thank you for your message. I will be glad to assist you with this.

What is the current version of BIOS installed?  Is it 1.10.0?

Please load the system to BIOS screen & then set BIOS to defaults & check if the issue persists.
