Inspiron G5 15-5587, WiFi drops, then connects itself

Hello,

I purchased Inspiron G5 15-5587 from Dell.com on Feb 20, 2019. I have this problem where wireless connection keeps on dropping at least 2 times a day, and then after 1 minute it reconnects. But when I try to manually connect it within this 1 minute time frame, it never allows me to do. While other devices connected to this network works fine during this issue with Inspiron G5 15-5587. The network card is Intel Wireless AC-9560. I contacted Dell Customer support but they don't have any resolution. They mentioned may be this is a software issue and they have to update registry or install new Windows. Important thing is I have to pay for this service as it is not covered. Its not even 2 months since I purchased this system. Any suggestion is really appreciated.

Below is the error message I can see in event viewer,

WLAN AutoConfig service failed to connect to a wireless network.

If the Killer Control Center is installed, perform the following =
* Click Windows icon
* Type killer
* Click Killer Control Center
* Click Settings
* Under System Settings, toggle Advanced Stream Detect to Off
* Click Apply Changes
* Retest WiFi connection

Further testing =
* The Inspiron G5 15-5587 is on
* Connect the AC power adapter to the left side power adapter port
* Press Fn + PrtScr to turn WiFi off
* Click Start- Power icon- Shutdown- OK
* Turn the Inspiron G5 15-5587 on
* Once into Windows, press Fn + PrtScr to turn WiFi on
* Click Start- Power icon- Restart- OK
* Retest WiFi connection

* Download/Save the Intel Wireless-AC 9560 driver to the Windows desktop
* Install the driver
* When done, restart the Inspiron G5 15-5587
* Retest WiFi connection

Hi Chris,

Thanks. I performed suggested steps and got same error as expected.

If I am not wrong, Killer Control center only works with Ethernet network, correct ? So, how does it related with wireless network issue? I opened installed Killer app when connected through wifi and it showed "No Killer Network Interfaces Connected".

Do you think there is some issue related to registry or may be something else? why I am saying is because I had exactly same issue with another Dell laptop and Dell was not able to fix issue with that laptop. They even replaced wireless adapter of that laptop and installed fresh windows. But no luck.

Below is the error I got after below suggested,

Just verifying that the Killer Control Center was not part of the WiFi issue.

Unknown about the registry. Generally, we do not recommend making changes there.

Hopefully another Inspiron G5 15-5587 user can chime in with their troubleshooting opinions.

My hope is that Dell will release a new Intel Wireless AC-9560 driver to correct this issue. You might want to test the retail Intel Wireless AC-9560 driver to see:
1. Does it install on our OEM laptop?
2. Does it fix the issue?

Hi Chris,

I have to now work with Intel and Microsoft to get help on this issue. When I contacted DELL technical support team, they mention that this is a software issue so maybe a fresh install of windows or change of registry settings are required. I keep on telling these people that this issue is from day 1 but I was lazy in reporting this. But now-a-days it is bugging me a lot. Software support team keeps on telling about warranty plans before even looking at the issue. I had this same issue with another dell laptop which I returned back after 1 year because Dell already replaced wifi adapter and re-imaged it. So, for sure this issue is not related to wifi adapter or windows. Also, all other device and a hp laptop is working fine without any issue at my home network. So, I am not sure why I am having trouble with only dell laptops.

I have the G5-15 5587 purchased in June 2018 and I have not experienced this issue, but I always run on power and not battery. If you're running on battery it might be that the OS is turning off wifi when battery is low. Also, I had an older ASUS Router that was giving me other issues (Samsung S7 was dropping connections) and I replaced it it a newer model (AC3100) and the speed is much faster and no connection issues on the S7 now...

Hi, I had the same problem since the first day using the computer. Check if two apps called SmartByte are installed in your computer and uninstall them. Those little demons affect internet and audio performance.

I think if you have time then return the unit, instead of meddling with a faulty one.
