Inspiron M 2 question

Hi,

I would like to install a M 2 hard drive in my computer.

I am aware that the inspiron run on GT 2 mode.

But if I buy an ssd that only uses two pcie lanes, will it be running at full speed since its only half the speed of a full x4 pcie lane drive?

Would appreciate any help!

Re: Inspiron M 2 question

Why not just buy a full performance M.2 NVMe drive - chances are the drive will outlive the system, and you may wind up using it in a better system in the future?

It's equally true that higher performance drives generally use  more reliable flash chips.  If you buy a low-end drive, you'll be compromising not just performance but potentially reliability.

Well, my money supplies are limited but the advice is good.

Thanks

Re: Inspiron M 2 question

I'd go with a less expensive first-tier M.2 SATA drive over an NVMe drive from a lower-tier manufacturer.  Remember - your data is  on that drive.  The last thing you want is a turbocharger thrown onto a cheap engine not built to take it.
