Leaving laptop plugged in with no battery inside

Hello, My laptop battery died recently, so I’ve taken out the battery and been using my laptop on AC power. I’m currently doing a full back up of my laptop to a external hard drive (Western Digital my passport drive) and It’s most likely going to take a few hours to complete. I would like to know if leaving the laptop on and plugged in for the night is dangerous? Is there any risk for an electrical shock or fire?
