Memory options for Precision M6700 (dual core/i5 version)

Hi,

I was please wondering if the i5 (dual core) version of the Dell Precision M6700 laptop can accept 16GB memory modules.

I know this version can only accept 2 modules installed at the same time but I was trying to obtain a 32GB configuration.

Also please: is DDR3 PC3-14900 the fastest RAM I can install (as long as so-dimm and 1.35v)?

Many thanks :)

PS

Sorry but the "other laptops" categories is not available anymore for posting.. not sure why!

horizonbrave,

Below are the memory specs.

Memory

Image-Memory modules

The Precision™ M4700 & M6700 system supports dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM with memory speeds of 1600MHz and 1866 MHz. The memory offers a significant increase of memory performance over previous platforms.

  • The memory solution is implemented in a dual-channel configuration, allowing the system to have twice the memory bandwidth while using the same memory technology.
  • Memory modules must be installed as a perfectly matched pair to take advantage of the dual-channel memory bus. If not a matched pair, the system's memory bus operates in a single-channel configuration.

No, it cannot -- 8G max per slot.

The memory speed depends on the CPU -- for the i5, 1333 is max.

Mine is also a M6700 with the same CPU as yours. I would have bought the wrong ram if not for this post an the answers it generated.

To sum it up for other M6700/i5 owners: Make sure the ram is DDR3/L, 1600, SODIMM, dual channel, 1.35v and max 16GB (2x8GB) ...

Thanks a lot guys... now I just have to wait 10 days for delivery, and I really hope it solves the issues I am having.
