Memory upgrade for Inspiron 15-5590

I'm looking for a 16GB memory upgrade for the "New Inspiron 15 5000" (model 5590, i7-10510 CPU). It comes with 4GB built-in, plus 4GB on a SODIMM module, which I want to replace with a 16GB module, giving 20GB in total. The official upgrade from Dell is "Dell Memory Upgrade - 16GB - 2Rx8 DDR4 SODIMM 2666MHz" but that costs almost 3 times what seems to be the equivalent from, eg  CT16G4SFD8266 from Crucial, which is specified as "DDR4 PC4-21300 • CL=19 • Dual Ranked • x8 based • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-2666 • 1.2V • 2048Meg x 64".

However, this model of laptop seems to be too new for Crucial/Kingston et al to have in their databases, so they won't confirm compatibility. Anyone know what the required spec for this laptop is (e.g. in terms of buffering, ECC, etc) and whether this Crucial memory module (or another similar) would work?

Thanks in advance.

That would be the DDR4 2666 16GB RAM module you mentioned. That Crucial RAM looks like a match for your system.

Hi

Did you upgrade the memory in the end?

If so what did you go with?

Thanks

Even I need to upgrade RAM for same configuration.  May I request you to provide the upgrade results or best suited RAM module.    Currently running fine  and i need to increase the RAM without impacting any clock speed issues.

Hi

I only bought the 5590 this week, and havign spoken to sales team and checked BEFORE I bought I was told it max upgrade was 8GB of RAM, this page suggest its 20gb.

Please can someone confirm that if I buy a 16gb of RAM it can be fitted to this machine on one card?

Sorry I'm not the most technically literate.

i dont mean to sound clueless but the chart is meaningless IF im reading it right I can buy 16gb and put it in one of the two slots, is this correct? I apprecaite I may be sounding dense but my understanding of what you posted was its upgradable to a total of 20gb. when i asked sales they said 16gb was a max i could go child11

@Child11

There is only one slot on the Inspiron 15-5590.

You should have 4GB onboard memory.

So the max that you can add is one 16GB SODIMM. "20GB Maximum Total"

You could not add a 32GB  SODIMM.
