Suddenly Inspiron wifi range cut in half

I've had this Inspiron 15 series 3000 for more than a year and the wifi has always worked well and connected in my den, one room away from the router (about 40').  Suddenly it won't work unless I'm in the same room as the wireless router.

I’ve tried a number of fixes on the Dell website and Youtube and nothing has helped.

 I did a System Restore back to 3/21 before the problem started and that didn’t help.

 The wireless router is a Linksys and is newer.  I ruled it out as I tried the wife's laptop in the den and it connects fine.

 Intel makes the wireless card inside the laptop (dual band wireless AC-3160), so I sent them a question but don’t know how helpful they will be or how long it will take.

This is running Windows 10.

 Has anyone else had this problem?  Any suggestions what to try?

Dell's a wifi troubleshooting guide. I don't have the link, but you can Google for it.

Open the system up and see if one or both of the antenna connectors to the WiFi card has come loose.  Someone else had a problem like this recently.  You can find the manual for your system on support.dell.com, which will include the necessary instructions (with diagrams) for how to open your system up.  If you want to reseat the antenna connectors, I would remove the WiFi card from its slot so you can get your index finger along the underside of the card directly under the antenna connector.  That way you can pinch the antenna onto the connector between your thumb and index finger, then just reinsert the WiFi card into its motherboard slot.
