SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools version 5.2.2.12981 failed to install in inspiron 14 5490 brand new laptop

Hi,

Got a brand new 5490 laptop yesterday and checked the driver updates in DELL update app. All the drivers are getting updated except SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools version 5.2.2.12981 and it is critical. I tried in the support assist app as well using run all button. In support assist app also it is getting stuck after some percentage download and not getting downloaded fully and showing failed. Please help me to fix this issue ASAP as it is critical one.

Thanks,

Ashok Kumar Reddy G

Dell thought they had this fixed, by having me reboot and then re-run Dell Support Assist program - it did not show that update was required.
But the problem returned today - same exact problem - the update starts - but never actually downloads anything.

Same problem Dell Inspiron 5584.  I've tried signing in to laptop with Microsoft account instead of pin, tried opening and running the Dell Update as an Administrator, tried turning virus protection off and tried all three at once.  None of them worked.  I also tried doing all the same things on both Dell Update and in the Dell Support Assist app.  I made sure both my bios and Support Assist app is up to date, but nothing works.  Very disappointing!!!

@jayrite  - Did you reboot after uninstalling SupportAssist, before trying to install the latest version?

Same here. I have an Inspiron 5567. This is not the first time we have encountered the exact same problem with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools update. I hope it gets fixed soon. Because I've already tried all possible solutions suggested here and nothing worked.

Hi Ashok Kumar Reddy G:

I have the same problem on my Dell Inspiron 5584.

See my 19-Nov-2020 post in Miker5897's thread Can't Install SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools in the SupportAssist for PCs board. Users in that thread are speculating that Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.2.2.12981 has been pulled from Dell's servers due to an undisclosed issue. For example, when I click the link in Dell Update v4.0.0 to read the full documentation for the critical Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tool v5.2.2.12981 update (square with arrow, highlighted in red in image below) that link opens my browser at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=06E08FF1D0A27C6EDF38C0BBBB51FD3AFE8C8E3E, which currently states "No Drivers found. It may be the link you followed to get here is not working or the content you are looking for has been removed and is no longer available."...

@lmacri yeah, I did the same and the same thing happened.

I'll wait for them to fix this, because I've already tried all possible solutions mentioned in previous posts, for this exact same issue of previous versions of this driver, an non of them worked.

Also on Dell XPS 15 7590.

First encountered this issue on November 22, 2020.  SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools 5.2.2.12981 kept failing, or else it would just hang on the download.

The SupportAssist application is where the notifications about updates show for me.  I have not tried using Dell Update.

After failing again today, SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools 5.2.2.12981 finally installed on a second attempt.  I didn't do anything different than I had already tried.  First try was just clicking the notification, which opened SupportAssist.  Download just kept hanging.  I cancelled it and closed SupportAssist.  Then I opened the SupportAssist app again from the Start menu, tried the update again, and it completed.  Previous attempts at the same thing have always failed; no clue why it worked this time.
