SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools version 5.2.2.12981 failed to install in inspiron 14 5490 brand new laptop
Hi,
Got a brand new 5490 laptop yesterday and checked the driver updates in DELL update app. All the drivers are getting updated except SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools version 5.2.2.12981 and it is critical. I tried in the support assist app as well using run all button. In support assist app also it is getting stuck after some percentage download and not getting downloaded fully and showing failed. Please help me to fix this issue ASAP as it is critical one.
Thanks,
Ashok Kumar Reddy G

@LukeKCThanks. I just went to Dell Update in my Start menu and was finally able to completely update my Inspiron 5584 laptop today --- I think. Unfortunately, I forgot to double check what I was downloading, and when I go to the SupportAssist app and press "History" like you did, it does not show any updates in HISTORY, SYSTEM ACTIVITY today. But when I go to System Restore and scan for programs that would be affected by a System Restore, it shows that I downloaded programs in screenshot below today. Hopefully I am taken care of since both Dell Update and SupportAssist app show nothing left to download.

Hi Ashok Kumar Reddy G:
I can also report that Dell Update v4.0.0 and Dell SupportAssist v3.7.0.148 appear to be working again on my Inspiron 5584 today now that Dell has pulled the problematic SupportAssist OS Recovery Tool v5.2.2.12981 update from their update servers and released a newer SupportAssist OS Recovery Tool v5.3.0.13847.
I ran Dell Update v4.0.0 today and it successfully installed the new SupportAssist OS Recovery Tool v5.3.0.13847 (see image below), and a subsequent Dell SupportAssist v3.7.0.148 "Get Drivers & Downloads" check ran to completion and reported my PC is up-to-date.
See my 03-Dec-2020 post in Dell Update v3.1.3 Stops at 10% Completion - Will Not Self-Update to v4.0.0 for further details.

I was also having this dell reset problem. When I tried to download the recovery tools on dell update, it did not work on my Inspiron 5594. When I got a USB Image, I tried resetting my laptop. At around 30% or in the middle of the reset, I got an error Reset Failed. I do not know how to fix this problem and it erased everything on my hard drive. It said try again, I tried again and again I got reset failed in which I am not sure of. Please let me know if there is any fix to this.

If it "erased everything" on your hard drive, you may have no choice now except to download the Win 10 ISO file from Microsoft (free), follow their instructions to create a bootable USB stick, and do a clean install of Win 10 and all your apps...

Hi SuchayeM:
I believe the issue being discussed in this November 2020 thread was resolved for most users when Dell pulled the buggy SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.2.2.12981 and released a newer v5.3.0.13847 in December 2020. You might want to start a new topic in the SupportAssist for PCs board and provide additional details that might help others suggest a possible solution. For example, what is your operating system and do you recall if Dell Update was trying to install the latest SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14594 (released April 2021) when this problem occurred? What do you mean when you said "When I got a USB Image...", and are you using the using the SupportAssist Recovery Assistant described in the support article Restore Your System Using Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery or some other recovery tool to reset your computer?
If the service warranty for your Inspiron 5590 has not expired yet you can also try contacting Dell Technical Support using one of the methods listed at https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/en-ca/contactus/.
Unfortunately, some users have recently reported that installation of the latest SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14594 corrupted a partition on their hard drive. I have been told by a Dell employee that this sometimes happens if the user closes the Dell SupportAssist interface or restarts their computer before the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools installation is complete, and Dell is apparently in the process of collecting diagnostic logs from some of the affected users before they decide if there is a serious bug in the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14594 installer that requires Dell to pull this update from their servers. See recent posts in my 13-Apr-2021 thread Problem Updating To SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14594 as well as balji's 09-May-2021 SupportAssist Deleted My Partitions While Installing OS Recovery for more information.
In most cases these users had created an additional partition on their hard drive (e.g., a D:\ drive they were using to store their personal user data) that was wiped during the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14594 installation, but user Irfan Channa posted <here> on 12-May-2021 that they also lost their Windows OS while trying to recover their data with "command type recovery data tools".
