Why Dell is restricting Inspiron 7706 2-in-1 to 16GB only?

I have purchased Inspiron 7706 2-in-1 and while waiting for shipment, I thought of getting ready with upgrading the RAM to 32GB but when I talk to the technical team it was surprise that this laptop does not support 32GB RAM.

The laptop with Intel processor i7 11th gen processor with SODIMM slots, supports only 16GB is little difficult to understand. As per intel, i7 can go upto 64GB.

On Amazon.com same laptop is getting sold with 32GB variant. https://www.amazon.com/Inspiron-Laptop-i7-1165G7-17-0-inch-Truelife/dp/B08QH1QY1W?th=1

It will be great if Dell support can clarify what is restricting the RAM to 16GB only and not giving opportunity to customers to upgrade more than 16 GB

Crucial guarantees 32G will work:

It's not uncommon for budget systems to have lower official RAM ceilings - it drives the sales of more profitable, mid-range and higher systems.

I have Replaced one DIMM slot with Patriot Signature Series 32GB 3200MHz purchased from Amazon.ca and it is working absolutely fine.

No issues running my laptop on 32+8 GB, except warranty of laptop may not cover.

Welcome to the Dell Community @mahalenikhil

Yes you should be able to upgrade to 64GB as your CPU indicates.

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/208921/intel-core-i7-1165g7-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-70-ghz-with-ipu.html

With the 8GB simm you will only have the first 8GB of the 32GB as "Dual Channel" or as Dell sometimes refers to it as "Dual Interleave".

So as you increase the size of the 8GB your Dual Channel will increase.

As far as warranty the additional memory would not be covered.

That is two different questions.

The first is a Dell policy question =
* What is the maximum memory tested/supported by Dell?

The second is meant to be answered by users =
* What is the maximum memory tested by users in the field?

Dell agents can only support what is listed in the online Inspiron 7706 2-in-1 Setup and Specifications PDF, page 13.

Dell agents cannot support or troubleshoot the addition of non-tested 3rd party memory nor can they support or troubleshoot going above 16GB.

Which ram did you use and was it difficult to replace?
