Windows 10 deleted my Support Assist

It was deleted about a year or two ago. I now do on the support to download drivers. But I relied on the Dell Support Assist to fix any bugs. My Inspiron 5558 is running slowly, no apps running in the background when I check. I have downloaded Dell Support Assist, but Windows stops installation at the 75% mark. The app is not available at the Microsoft store, please help.

I've received your email....

Lately there are a lot of people that reported problems with Support Assist, especially with version 3.4.5. The latest Support Assist (version 3.5.0) has been successful for most people but others have reported problems as well - see link below).

SupportAssist for PCs - Dell Community

Now, there are some reports the computer antivirus software and firewall detect Support Assist as a malware, therefore blocking it from installing onto the computer. I'd suggest you temporary disable both antivirus and firewall, restart system, and then try to install latest Support Assist.

If the above step doesn't fix the problem, check in a few days (or weekly) to see if Dell will do another Support Assist update.

In the meantime, I suggest you download and install latest drivers / firmware manually rather than use the Support Assist. Just enter the service tag number (or use the Detect PC option) onto the link below. After, you should be able to see all the drivers, firmware, warranty and other important information for the computer in your Dell Product Support page.

Drivers & Downloads

If you think the computer is experiencing a Hardware problem, run Dell ePSA Pre-boot System Diagnostic to check the hardware.

Thanks for update.

After Windows 10 stopped my Dell Support Assist from working, I did a clean uninstall last fall as the support site suggested. But Windows 10 stops from installing a new download about the 75% mark. Tells me to reboot , which I do, same result.

Thanks, but the first command didn't work most likely because there is no SupportAssist in Dell. The last person told me to delete it. But I do have it in my downloads. Can you send me a new first command, please, for that file? Thanks.

No Success!

Scenario 1:

Step 11: No HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE listed that was on your list

Step 13: The given download address doesn't exist, but downloaded SupportAssist in Dell Support

Step 15: the command not recognized, don't know how to manually create files

Scenario 2

Step 2, did not find the message Dell requested, but did see "file did not contain an assembly manifest"

STEP 3:

Dell Support not listed in the Microsoft list

Step 4:

Do not receive that message, did not proceed.

Try the troubleshooting step below:

Press the windows key and 'R' key at the same time.

In the Run screen, Type CMD onto the box, select Okay

Type each commands one at a time, and then press enter for each one of them

1)   cd C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssistAgent\bin

2)  SupportAssistUI.exe Launch

Hopefully Support Assist (version 3.5.0) load up correctly.

" The last person told me to delete it. But I do have it in my downloads "

------------------------------------------------------

Since you have Support Assist (version ?) in your downloads, use Revo Uninstaller (free version) to delete all the left over Support Assist registry files. Revo is one of the most powerful uninstaller.

Also watch the video in link below, hopefully it will help:

After you completely get rid of Support Assist, reinstall latest Support Assist (version 3.5.0) from the link below:

I have had issues similar with the Dell Assist app, I finally gave up when I performed a clean install of Windows awhile back and decided not to re-install it. I think Dell offers a better app for updates in the Microsoft Store that seems to be more stable.

Thanks for the advice but there isn't a SupportAssist app in the Microsoft store. Maybe the MyDell app would work for others, but my PC is older than 2018. However, the previous reply solved my problem by sending me to this link:

The short video shows you how to run diagnostics which I did successfully. It's worthy of a bookmark.
