Will the "release rollbacks" (post-OneFS.NEXT) also be non-disruptive? Or will only upgrades be non-disruptive, but rollbacks (or downgrades) will disrupt?

Does this mean that synciq is becoming bidirectional? This seems like a fairly limited use case product if it is not, since either the SD cluster or the regular cluster will necessarily be read-only for data that resides there.

Is the 36TB "manageable" by IsilonSD Edge usable space for the filesystem data? Or is it 36TB raw that will then have the Isilon data protection scheme applied against it?

Since the "up to 36TB" has been described as being made up of up to 12 VMDKs of up to 2TB each, I'm assuming it's 36TB of raw capacity available to the IsilonSD?

In the initial release we are staying cautious and we will require a simultaneous reboot to complete the rollback. The process is very similar to an upgrade with simultaneous reboot.

As far as I understand, Isilon is based on FreeBSD.   Often, when OneFS major version changes, many sysctl parameters have been changed.

When we rollback to previous version, does OneFS be aware of changes made to sysctls?

Thank you Anissa!

Unrelated question: Does the SD version smartfail drives that stall too often for too long time, as class OneFS does on Isilon nodes?

Also, does SD run the MediaScan job to check the disks?

Both procedures are an essential parts of the data protection strategy in OneFS, and at the same time they reflect how OneFS has full power over the underlying hardware. I wonder how this is transformed into a virtual environment -- where a OneFS "drive" often would be just one partition of a physical drive, with other partitions being used by different VMs/apps at the same time...

Curious

We will maintain all supported configuration settings in the upgrade and the rollback. That being said, we advise caution when modifying any sysctls. So to be on the safe side I would recommend noting any sysctl changes that you had before you start the upgrade and then if you have to rollback ensuring those sysctl changes are maintained.

Hi Katie -  Apologies for the delayed response.

We do not intend for the cluster to remain in an uncommitted state indefinitely so we will support being in an uncommitted state for up to 10 days. If you aren't committed after 10 days we will not force an upgrade commit but it is a very good idea to commit that upgrade. After 7 days we'll start sending nag messages to remind the administrator to finish the upgrade and we will continue to nag every 7 days until the upgrade is committed. You cannot start another upgrade until the previous upgrade is committed.

You can rollback anytime before the upgrade is committed. This can be after upgrading a single node or all nodes or anything in between. After the upgrade is committed there is no rollback.

Can you use IsilonSD Edge as one tier of Isilon SmartPool?

No, SD Edge is a separate cluster on its own. It cannot be a Smartpools tier for an existing Isilon cluster.

The answer to both us yes. We do mediascan and you can Smartfail a vmdk should you choose to do so. The vmdks presented to OneFS are a full physical disk.

Honestly, I'm a bit more concerned about the radio silence from the experts in this thread.

Can you speak more to the compression aspect of cloudpools? Where does the compression occur, and how much overhead is that?

Is that exclusive to cloudpools, or will it be an option for regular data as well?
