Cluster network configuration best practices
Hi all,
I am setting up a new cluster with 3 x X410's. Each node has 2 x 1GbE and 2 x 10GbE connections. I've setup a one subnet and two pools. One pool contains the 1GbE connections and I've labeled this 'management' and plan on using this for InsightIQ, OneFS web interface and other management tasks. Then I setup another pool with the 6 x 10GbE connections for the smb shares. I plan to create another pool for NFS shares and also use the 6 x 10GbE.
Does this make sense? I don't see why we would want to add the 1GbE connections to the 10GbE pool since there are 2 x 10GbE interfaces on each node already for redundancy. Should I even use the 1GbE interfaces at all?
Thanks!!

Hi zbot,
you should not mix 1G and 10G Interfaces in a pool.
The 1G Interface usage for management purposes is the right way to use them. another alternative is to use them for pools with small/ unintensive workloads.
Depending on you paranoia level and your environment you could even use both 1G in an active /passive config for management access.

i use 1G interfaces exclusively for replication, your planned config looks good.

Beside the other answers consider using Access Zones for separating user access and management access. SSH and Access to the webUI is only possible through the System zone.
