Software License transferable?
OK here is the situation.
5 IQ36NL nodes are installed with licenses with SmartPools, SyncIQ, SmartConnect Adv, SnapshotIQ, and InsightIQ. We would like to do a upgrade to X400 66TB with 1.2TB SSD nodes for the ability get higher performance read performance. Both node types fit into the High Density category on licensing. Can those be transferred to the X Nodes?
I actually have the same situation at a different location but we want to go to from IQ36NL nodes to NL400 108TB nodes for a denser footprint. Would this answer be different than the one above?

Software Licenses are not transferable between different companies. Software is licensed to the original company who procured the equipment.

To the extent of my knowledge licenses are not transferable to other nodes regardless of there category. The only exception to this would be if there is and ELA in place or not.

With that being said, what are the limitations, if any, in how licenses are transferred within the same company to new/different equipment? What is the process for getting licenses moved to different nodes?

The process will depend on whether nodes are being moved between clusters, or being upgraded or replaced.
In all cases, work with your Isilon sales team to have your licenses adjusted and/or issue new license tokens to fit your needs.
