Using SyncIQ to backup one Isilon to another
Hi all,
I am interested in how other people with 2 Isilon clusters are backing up your data.
We have 2 live datacentres, each with a live Isilon cluster replicating to the other using SyncIQ.
We have setup the following:
Snapshots every hour
SyncIQ policies that replicate from one Isilon to another every hour on both clusters
Would you say the above is good enough for backup? I know EMC advise that it is according to the official documentation however I'm interested to find out what others are doing.

Many people do simply use snap and replicate as you've described. But bigger picture it's of course important to keep in mind that snapshots and backups are not the same thing, and serve a different business purpose. Isilon supports NDMP backups for a very good reason, however NDMP as a protocol has its own problems (backups being filesystem specific for one).

Hi Chris,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
We will look at also backing up to NDMP.
