14z- N411z Multiple failures
I've had a dell technician out 3 times in the last week to replace a touchpad issue with jumping cursor- they replaced the mother board also. then the display went bad. tech came out and replaced mother board but the new MB would not power on so he put the old one back in. said it must have been a loose connection to the screen. next day, system would not power on. came out today for the 3rd time and replaced MD, power charge connector, new adaptor and who knows what else. working fine until the laptop just shut off. can't power on- can't do anything. i've been asking to get this lemon replaced. send me a new 14z and i'll put my old hard drive in and be good to go. but they won't do it. it has to be repaired. take care of this problem and give me a new computer. stand up for your products. it is a 6 month old lemon. oh, and in trying to repair it the first two times, they fried the cable to the webcam also which today's tech pointed out to me. i am stunned by dell's response.

I had the pad replaced as well as most of the computer- my cursor still jumps so i don't use the touch pad at all. If I do have to use the touch pad, the cursor will go up and down when i move my finger on the pad but it won't go left or right. very frustrating- did you find out anything???

Hi rrleon1 / jhstew1
This is a concern with the drivers. Uninstall and reinstall the touchpad and quickset drivers to resolve it perfectly. Here is how we can uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
1) Click “Start”, type “Device Manager” and press enter.
2) In the “Device Manager” window, double click “Mouse and other pointing devices”.
3) Right click "Dell Touchpad", click "Uninstall", and ensure to check the box “Delete driver software for this device”.
4) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation.
5) Click “Start”, type “Programs and Features” and press enter.
6) In the “Programs and Features” window, right click “Quickset64”, click “Change/Uninstall”.
7) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation.
8) Restart the computer.
9) Use the following link to download the Touchpad driver: http://tinyurl.com/c98eos
10) Select Download file.
11) Once the download is completed, run the driver file.
12) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
13) Restart the computer.
14) Use the following link to download the Dell Quickset: http://tinyurl.com/dxl963h
15) Select Download file.
16) Once the download is completed, run the driver file.
17) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
18) Restart the computer.
Check the functionality of the touchpad after following the above steps.
Please post the results. Would be glad to assist you further.

Hi rrleon1,
As you have told that situation got worse, let us roll back the drivers for the touchpad to set it to earlier state. The driver has worked a lot of times, thanks for this observation. I will research more on this and get back to you with resolution
Follow the below instructions to roll back the drivers:
1) Click “Start”, type “Device Manager” and press enter.
2) In the “Device Manager” window, double click “Mouse and other pointing devices”.
3) Right click "Dell Touchpad", select “ Properties” from the list and the screen looks as follows :
4) Select “Roll Back Driver” option and select “OK” after it is done.
5) Restart the computer to save changes.
6) Check the functionality of touchpad
Reply for further help.

Hi jhstew1,
Welcome to the Community,
I see that the hardware (touchpad) has already been replaced but still you're having the same issue. Some users having similar issue have confirmed using the Touch freeze utility ( disables touchpad automatically while you are typing text). You can download and install this utility from this link below :
http://code.google.com/p/touchfreeze/downloads/detail?name=TouchFreeze-1.1.0.msi
Note:This a 3rd party utility and not Dell validated application.
Please confirm if this utility helps.
Thank You

I am using an Inspiron 14z(1470). It seems you have mixed up the posts & Its not when i am typing. I have not had anything replaced, this has been an issue since I purchased the unit but seems to have gotten much worse the past month or so.
The issue is as described in this thread, i am using the touch pad and suddenly the cursor will just randomly jump to the other side of the screen, if i am dragging the cursor around(in the middle of the pad) the page just starts scrolling.
I have deleted the drivers and re-installed them as suggested, but that did not help.

it was my system (14Z) that had everything replace over a period of a couple of weeks- including the touchpad, motherboard, etc. Still have the issue but not as often. I have tried all the fixes in this thread- i am careful to note that the palm of my hand does not touch the touchpad to cause a jump in the cursor. I use a mouse almost all the time and all of a sudden, the cursor still will start jumping. if i try to use the touchpad at that point, it often times will not move left or right but will go up and down. crazy. so, i just disable my touchpad when the cursor starts moving and that works for a while. but, i need to use the touchpad once in a while so it would be nice to have working. love the computer- hate the pad- and i chose this computer because the touchpad was located in a position that my hands did not hit it when i was typing. oh well

Hi rrleon1,
Could you confirm if the Touchpad was working normally for sometime after it was replaced? Did the issue reoccur in course of time or replacing touchpad did not make any change?
Though you've mentioned you take care to make sure not to touch the touchpad while typing, try installing this Touch freeze utility and confirm if you notice any change with cursor movement.
Here is the download link : code.google.com/.../detail
If the issue persists you may uninstall this utility.
