5160 Laptop - XP reinstall ?
I have a friend who has a Dell 5160 Inspiron laptop. I need to re-install the XP OS, does the laptop come with a recovery option either built into a section on a hard drive partition or did it come with a CD ?
The CD cannot be found at the moment, would dell be able to supply a repalcement CD for the laptop ?
Thanks

If the Inspiron 5160 in question is still using the original hard drive, it has the Dell PC restore feature. Access this by starting the machine and pressing CTRL and F11 toward the end of self test, releasing both keys at the same time during the appearance of a blue bar at the top of the display. This should bring up the PC Restore menu giving the choice of restoring the computer to factory delivered condition or quitting.
Assuming your friend is the registered owner of the laptop, and that he lives in the U.S., he may be able to get a set of replacement CDs by filling out this form: Dell Replacement Disks. There may be a charge to receive the disks.
