Does the 5748 have a separate battery charger board or is it built into the mother board?

The charge circuit is part of the mainboard.

There aren't many systems left from any company with separate charge boards - that went out of production over a decade ago with most systems.

Understand, they save $, but when it breaks it is a tremendous cost to repair.
It is called planned obsolescence, or how to sell new computers and how you feed the landfill.
It is the way of the world now.
I'm an old guy (75), that is not how we did it back then.
