9200 vs XPS Noise Factor

Service is coming to replace the cpu fan on my XPS because it makes griding noises.  This is the second service call I've had on this machine since I've had it for all of 17 days.  I'm seriously thinking of returning this machine and getting the 9200.  I got the XPS because I do video editing and thought I needed the faster P4, but this thing is loud and after using it for a while, the noise is really irritating.  When I turn it off it's as if someone has lifted a weight from my head.

I'm guessing that since the 9200 has the dothan chip, the fans would not be running all the time like on the XPS.  Does anyone have a 9200 yet that can tell me the difference in the noise level?

I might add, the first service call was to replace the motherboard and the 1gig mem on the XPS.  Not a good track record so far.

I don't have a 9200 but I do have an 8600 which uses the same Dotham chip. My 8600 has a 2GIg Dotham chip and is extreamlly quiet.

Thanks.  That's what I needed to know.  They replaced the cpu fan today and it's still pretty "grindy".  No way I could take that into a meeting situation.  I'll miss the track stick and the gigabit lan, but quiet and longer battery will be a plus.

I, too, had a "grindy" fan. After two fan replacements, it's quiet. I have a 9100, the 3.2GHz brother of the XPS.
