9400/1705 bad graphics card dell Spain

I wonder if anyone has had experiance with dell spain,I have Inspiron 9400/1705 with the geforce 7900 gs graphics card, card is dead,I contacted dell spain for help with my two year old laptop, alas out of warenty,I have just received a quote for 1.030 euro, one thousand and thirty euro, this seems madness on dell`s part, has anyone had a similar expiriance?,my laptop has only been used for web and photo, the nvidia card is known to have a fault, nvidia has allowed 200 milion dollars to cover the replacement of these cards, yet dell spain ask for 1.030 euro for repair,I dont think many people will be buying dell with this kind of customer service.

The 7900GS is not a defective card or part of the nvidia replacement. The 8400 and 8600 gt cards are the defective cards.Try ebay you can get one there for $389.00 USD.

Why should we have to pay another $400.00 or so and do a self replace for something that we paid more money for than the average laptop and hope that it doesn’t happen again in another 2 years. I guess I should have just bought one of the cheap, throw-away laptops instead of this very expensive throw-away!!

I just got off the phone with dell service and was told I can send my 1705 in to be repaired for a min of $199.00 to a max of $498.00,  guaranties it would be fixed and that this would be guaranteed for 3 months.
Soooo.. I guess this expensive laptop just got more expensive!!
I don’t see any choice except to replace the video card myself (good luck finding one) and hope that it isn’t also the motherboard!
Way to back your products Dell!!

Just venting!

The replacement does not last 2 years.   Dell replaced my card with a refurb in May 2009, last week it died.  So - five months.  I'm looking for an ATI because my machine is out of warranty but has a few useful years left.  You can buy a new computer for $400.  But I hate wasting electronics.

This is too bad, and I'm going to talk to NVidia first.
