ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 on Inspiron 1545 .. .. Driver ?

Both the windows 7 x64 driver in dell support for Inspiron 1545 and generic drivers at AMD website
Install catalyst manager , but do NOT pick up the ATI Radeon.
I cannot get this graphics hardware recognised and given a driver to enable it in device manager.
What's the trick folks, what's the trick?

That's just it there are no ? or anything out of place in device manger It looks perfect
clicking on show hidden devices there appeared another mobile intel chipset express

underneath it , --- here it is ( think its just another version on windows update )

Hardware Id's -- Graphics Adapters

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A43&SUBSYS_02AA1028&REV_07

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A43&SUBSYS_02AA1028

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A43&CC_038000

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A43&CC_0380

     and

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_02AA1028&REV_07

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_02AA1028

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&CC_030000

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&CC_0300

On that intel site, my graphics drivers are current
and intel chipsets: drivers are valid

You may well be correct about not having an ATI card, as its not there in the setup guide .pdf

Have I been chasing a phantom?
none of the amd autodetects /validates  found anything?

confused because the ATI M92 is in my dell driver/support list for win7 x 64
though I notice its not there for earlier operating systems ??

so did Dell add the ATI Radeon to later Inspiron Models ? I wonder

Bit non-plussed now to be honest

thanks for your effort :)

Graphics Processor: integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 with 256 or 512 MB of graphics memory

both happy and sad at the same time :)

three things need to be installed BEFORE the video drivers will load:

The Chipset driver

The Dell system software

The Microsoft dot.net framework.

support.dell.com, enter service tag, downloads - chipset for the first one and system  utilities for the second.  The dot.net framework can be downloaded through Windows Update.

Hey EJN63, ----The Holy Trinity ---- 3-in-1

I had 2 outa 3, ain't bad, but no good either sir .

I think I might have it in the bag, it was the system software that threw me
in mine arrogance, I thought .. ahh pants who needs that <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> ..lol

been at this on and off 16hrs , mostly on :(
tried different operating systems ..
well you do ,don't you ,when you don't know .

100 windows updates before I can try the driver again ,
then after system software reboots
can't wait ....can wait -- patience ..

oh dear .. tried a number of combinations :

diagnosis: there are 2 system utilities :
first: dell system software and
2nd :update package for Microsoft windows dell_util-win ( 32 bit ) can be deployed on 64 bit

The first thing I did was go to intel site and get latest chipsets so that's ok

the drivers/catalyst manager on amd I have tried them all
the software doesn't pick up the ati , just reports on the Intel Cantiga express chipsets

I have got upto .Net 3.51 after many windows updates ..

Its not happening ....
windows is now on sevice pack 1 for windows 7

Not sure what to do ..
the system software apps when I ran them 1st took about 1o mins and aa reboot
now if I click on them , just a couple of minutes .. I cant see what these programmes are loading
or where .. just trusting they're doing their thing..

stuck !  ( running  windows 7 x64 )
even the old drivers on dell run into the same problem as the amd ones,

graphics drivers looking for something i'm sure but not finding it ???
they're not picking up the ati just the intel chipsets

who is the dud amongst the pidgeons here I wonder? what can I try ?

forgot to add that ati graphics driver/catalyst manager always gives options of
express or custom, I've been clicking on express

oh and one driver I d/loaded from ati wouldn't run as error: compatibility issues with 32 and 64 bit
it was exactly the driver for win 7 x64 I checked and rechecked
so I don't get how it could have given my a compatibility error
somethings amiss?  might help an expert here though ..

First provide the hardware IDs of the graphics device in the device manager. See here for details:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/downloading-drivers-checking-hardware-ids-and-downloading-and-installing-dell-system-drivers-in-the-correct-order/

Its possible that you only have the integrated Intel graphics card and not the optional AMD card. Hence the drivers do not detect the hardware and flag up an error message. Also run Intel Driver Update Utility:

http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/

Both hardware IDs are Intel.

There is no AMD hardware ID thus there is no AMD hardware detected by Windows thus all AMD drivers will fail to install.

The AMD graphics card was a customisation option. Likely the integrated Intel would have been the base configuration and the AMD card would have been a customisation option with a higher price tag. Its possible tat the AMD card was sold as default for the later sold Inspiron 1545 depending on how Dell stock was at the time.

Dell Drivers and Downloads should yield only the correct driver set that apply to your system when a Service Tag has been input. I however find Drivers and Downloads incredibly unreliable (especially when a Service Tag is input). My XPS 8300 gives me 2 graphics cards when I only have 1 of them and omits most of the essential drivers for instance.

You can have a look at your Original System Configuration on the Support Website. This is cryptically laid out but should mention the 4330 card somewhere if it was included with the system. I'm pretty sure by the looks of things that you only have the integrated Intel graphics however.
