Adding 2nd M.2 SSD to Precision 7510
I just purchased a Precision 7510 laptop. I ordered it with the following primary drive and no secondary drive:
- 400-AILW 256GB M.2 PCIe High Performance Solid State Drive, MPWS
I'd like to add a second M.2 NVMe drive (perhaps a Samsung 950 Pro) in the 2.5" drive slot. When ordering the laptop, it was an option to get a high performance M.2 NVMe drive with "Interposer". Does anybody know the part number for this "Interposer"? Are there any other parts that I'll need to make this work?
Thanks!

@Aprit,
The Precision 7710 can accommodate the following drive configurations:
Config 1. 3x NVME drives:
2x NVME drives in the 2 built in NVME slots ( I have an example picture of the M.2 slots shown below )
1x NVME drive in the 2.5 inch bay with the parts outlined above in this threard
Note: For the 2 NVME drives in the M.2 slots, you'll need the thermal covers. These covers should already be there form the factory even if you don't order M.2s with the system drive directly from Dell. If they're missing, the part number is HR8P8.
M.2 slot locations example picture:
Pictures of HR8P8 thermal cover:
Config 2. 2 NVME drives and 1 2.5 SATA drive:
2x NVME drives in the 2 NVME slots
1x SATA drive in the 2.5 inch bay with hard drive caddy KN40P ( part shown below ).

Is this also the case (wired for X2 only) with the Precision 15 7000 Series 7510? On a chat I was just told that it supports X4

Greetings Intrasight,
Thank you for your question. The number of PCIE lanes available depends on which slot you're talking about.
-The dedicated M.2 slot is wired for 4X
-An M.2 drive inserted into the 2.5 inch bay with required adapter parts, will run at 2X
I've outlined the same in the below sticky:

Hi Justin,
That is very helpful. However, this line I find very unclear:
Precision 7510:
Drive configurations supported: 1xM.2, 1x2.5 SATA, 2xM.2, 1xM.2 and 1x2.5 SATA
Could you give a more clear explanation of options? The explanation for Precision 7710 was more clear.

Hi Intrasight,
My listing in the sticky basically means that you can have certain configurations of drives: Outlined below in a different way:
Config 1: 1 M.2 drive
Config 2: 1 2.5 inch SATA drive
Config 3: 2 M.2 drives
Config 4: 1 M.2 drive and 1 2.5 inch SATA drive
For the 7710 I listed the maximum amount of drives only. One can assume the individual configs of the 7710 based off the maximum number of drives. For example, I listed "3x M.2". Which means you can have 1,2 or 3 M.2 drives at any one time.

I have a 7510 with the second NVME HD already installed. I would like an updated adapter to install a second NVME M.2 drive in the 2.5". Any chance Dell Engineering is hard at work on that device?

So my 7710 was working ok and now can't see me 2nd m2 drive?
OS boots slowly but 2nd drive is missing.
Bios shows this which doesn't look correct to me?

How can one order the parts? When I search for them they do not seem to be generally available for ordering

@RobertForbes,
You can try Dell accessories at 1-800-357-3355. If you have any questions after trying that number send me a friend request and I'll see if there's anything I can do.

Riprendo questo tread per chiedere : è possibile anche su un 7520? Se SI la velocità che si ottiene è quella del SATA III o di una interfaccia M.2 ?
Grazie a chi potrà rispondere?
