Audio controls close full screen videos and games

I've got a Studio 1737 with Vista Home Premium.

When I'm doing things in full screen mode, like videos and games, and I use the volume controls across the top (Media buttons) I get dropped out of full screen mode.

It used to play nice and just adjust the volume for me but not it drops the full screen stuff. How can I get it back to playing nice?
