Audio crackling on XPS 15 (L502X)

I am experiencing intermittent audio crackling whilst playing music on my new XPS 15 laptop which I received this week. I have been going through various forums and have come to the conclusion that the problem is caused by the Centrino 6230 Wi-Fi Card, as it causes latency spikes and distorts the sound. Are Dell going to release a driver/patch to solve this, or will it be better just to get a replacement wi-fi card (I've read that the Broadcom card works fine)

Any advice would be greatly received.

It's impossible to say what Dell might or might not do. They probably don't know themselves in advance whether or not they can fix a given problem. The complaints started over a year ago (with the XPS L501x).

If you get a different card please let us know if it made a difference.

I am also having this issue on XPS 15 with Intel Centrino N 1000 wifi card.

Is there any solution/work around for this?

XPS 15

Hello. I noticed that you have posted on threads about the XPS L502x model and the XPS L511z model. You should make clear the model of your laptop if it is not the same as the subject model of the thread in which you post.

Dell XPS 15

You should disclose the model of your laptop so that people will know which model your solution applies to. The models that Dell markets under the "XPS 15" label are:

L501x, L502x, L521x, and 9530.

its Dell XPS L502X.

Hello. In an XPS 15z thread you were asking if the solution in that thread woulds work for you. That particular solution was for XPS 15z models with the Atheros AR8152 Ethernet controller, which is different from what is in the XPS L502x model, so I doubt that that solution would apply to your laptop.

All of the solutions I know of for the XPS L502x are in the Choppy/Skipping Audio FAQ. Look through the L501x/L502x and L701x/L702x sections.

In your other thread you wrote:

"I have updated all the Intel Proset driver versions and this issue started from 15.X onwards and haven't face any issue with 14.2 or 14.3 versions. Unfortunately, unable to rollback from 15.x to 14.2 version and facing this issue."

On Dell's support page for the L502x all of the Centrino 1000 drivers I saw are 14.2 or lower. Go to the XPS L502x support page. Select your operating system. Expand the Network category. Locate the Centrino 1000/1030 driver and click "View details" to see all of the versions available.

To install an older version, open the Device Manager in your laptop. Find the driver and right click on it to open the context menu. Select to uninstall the driver and select the option to delete the files. Reboot and then you can install an older driver.

If that fixes your noise issue let me know and tell me your operating system so I can include it in the FAQ.
