BIOS UPDATE A10/ A13/ A16 XPS 15 9550 4K SCREEN TERRIBLE FLICKER

HI,

I have an XPS 15 9550 laptop with 4K screen. I installed the recently released BIOS update which is supposed to address the flickering screen issue. Previously I only ever experienced some minor intermittent flicker at brightness level 0 but after the update, flickering was occurring quite frequently - I checked this upto brightness level 50% and it occurs at all the way up.

It appears the update has made things much much worse Luckily I managed to roll back to A06 which must be the previous release as its the only one on the downloads page.

Anyone else find the update made things much worse?

Be good to know what Dell is doing to sort this out (again).

I'm using BIOS A16 and intel driver 4331, its almost sorted the flickering very well but at the sacrifice of and outdated intel driver version.

I have dialogue with a Dell Tech Support Manager. Iv been told in two weeks there should be another update.

is it possible to ask for a full refund? I just bought my xps15(i7 4k) last September for 2700sgd. please keep us updated if they allow you to refund. thanks

I just tried reverting back to the Intel HD Graphics driver version 20.19.15.4331 to fix the flickering.  While it seemed to fix the flickering issue the dell premier color profiles were all rendering with eye bleed saturation.  Ever since the Windows 10 anniversary update, the Dell Premier Color interface has stopped working and the only way to switch color profiles has been via back door method (right click on desktop to change the color profile). Seems like if you want to use dell premier color profiles (via right click on desktop) you are stuck with BIOS 1.2.0 A06 to fix screen flickering issues.

I assume the DPC color profiles can be copied from the DPC folder to the Windows CM folder and switched there manually if needed.

I don't like DPC adjusting brightness.

I can also confirm that the latest BIOS 1.2.16 did not fix the flicker issue for me. It is this 'wink' every 15 seconds or so, but only on battery. Very annoying

This is absolutely annoying, I've also got the dell XPS 9550, i7 4k touch, and using the latest BIOS 1.2.16  and the latest intel HD graphics driver and also the latest nvidia drivers, flickering still happens.

I'm a software engineer and I spend 10 hours of my day in front of a screen, bought a 4k to enjoy looking at it, but find it the most difficult thing ever to even look at the screen for 10 minutes. It's *** annoying.

I come from a 2013 MBP, and my experience has never been worse ! God I wish I never switched from mac to dell. Talking about a VERY POOR product quality and support.

I don't understand their naming of BIOS...they have still called it Dell XPS 15 9550 1.2.15 A16 but filename File Name: XPS_9550_1.2.18.exe .....

iv installed it a short moment ago....so far so good, though I'm still using the 4331 intel graphics drivers at the moment.

Flickering was still persistent on the A16 with 4331 drivers combo, much less and more difficult to spot but still there.

Now with A18 and 4331....will know in due course if flickering is there but so far nothing...to early to confirm for sure however. The real test is with latest drivers - in fact I might aswell just install those now..report back in a bit

Anyone installed it yet? What's the verdict? Not got mine with me at the moment.

I can confirm that with 1.2.18, I finally (after nearly a year!) have no flickering issues, at least it's been like this for a day now. Will report if things go wrong again.

ok so having been using the laptop for best part of the evening up to now, this has to be the best update released to date regarding this issue.

as for the flickering I think its 99.9% gone......I happened to notice 'something' but only once that looked like a flicker...not in succession like before...anyway its looking good....will post back if I see any repetition.

Same here. Did 2 hours of photo editing after installing all latest drivers (BIOS & Video).

Did not see any flicker.

Finally. Was getting pretty annoyed.
