Brand new Inspiron laptop black screen during setup
just bought a new laptop, got as far as the Windows "hello" feature and adding a PIN, walked away for a minute and the screen turned Black. I could still move the mouse pointer but could do nothing else. I then shut it off, held the power button on for about 10 secs and then the firmware started updating. Is this a concern or is it fairly common?

Yes, it's a very common especially for a new computer. Pease keep in mind, the system will black / blue screen while installing the window updates and firmware.
