Calibrating Dell Latitude XT

I'm having a hard time calibrating this computer's screen because I cannot make the gamma controls look like the "good" one in the instructions in the control panel. And when you use the ATI panel, it'll shut off the other one/vise versa.

The real issue here is that the whites in my monitor aren't really white. I've already disabled the ambient light sensor with no luck in helping.

I know it can go whiter, because I've tried it already, but I'm not sure where to take it from there since everything else gets lighter too.... Is there any applications that could help me in calibrating a little better? As in letting me choose between various profiles and seeing which one I like best?

I'm on Windows 7 by the way.
