Can't use Geforce GT 525M when on battery even when set as preferred

Hi,

How can I use GT 525M as my graphic card when the n5110 is running on battery? I am setting 525M as preferred card from the nVidia control panel, but whenever I start a game I get a very bad performance, absolutely dreadful unlike when I have the laptop plugged in?

Is there something more that needs to be done? I have the newest drivers btw.

Tnx

Hi Royalwazu,

Welcome to the community

It seems the issue could be resolved by maximizing performance from the battery in the power options. Below are a few link which would be of help.

Hello,

I am still stuck. I am using High Performance, with all things maxed as the Microsoft guide said, I have the newest BIOS for N5110 downloaded from DELL's site, as well as other drivers, and still as soon as I unplug the machine I see significant FPS drop.

Help somehow?

Hi Royalwazu,

Thank you for your response.

Did you try to update the driver from the dell website or the NVidia’s website?

May I know how old the battery is and also the name of the game you are trying to play?

The battery operating time is largely determined by the number of times it is charged. After hundreds of charge and discharge cycles, batteries lose some charge capacity (battery health). That is, a battery can show a charged status but maintain a reduced charge capacity.

Note: Even if after setting the power options to the high performance it is not working, that means the game needs the AC adapter to be plugged in all the time to display the best graphic quality or the battery's performance is degrading.

I bought the laptop 3-4 weeks ago. I installed both drivers from DELL and Nvidia site. All drivers are updated to the newest. versions.

It's not just one game, Wow, Diablo, Battlefield, PES 2012... The games run smoothly when plugged in, but when I unplug the machine I see drop in FPS and slower performance. It is easy to tell because I can unplug it while in game and you see it immediately.

As said High performance power options are on, nVidia graphic is chosen as preferred, even though the games it selves choose to run under nVidia. And nothing helps.

I get the same with my dell n5110 with GT525M. I can watch dvd/surf internet/music fine on battery but games need to be plugged in. Games are demanding and i don't think the battery got the power needed to keep the game running smooth.
