Cannot get SMART status ... Failed to repair the drives

My Dell XPS 13, with Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS, a Samsung PM951 ssd, will not boot past the logo.

I've tried every BIOS set-up possible, and Recovery & Restore does not work. I get the following error message:

"Cannot get SMART status. Short SMART test is not supported. Failed to repair the drives".

Is there any fix? If I have to replace the ssd, will I still have my OS? My Dell warranty has expired...

RE: Cannot get SMART status ... Failed to repair the drives

Are you running the system in RAID mode (which will block the SMART test)?

What do the Dell diagnostics (f12 at powerup) have to say about the status of the drive?
