Changed AC adapter, battery is completely drained and is no longer recognized

Hi all,

I have an Inspiron 6400 and I have recently changed my AC adapter.  My old adapter failed to charge the battery and it got completely drained before I got my new adapter.  After I had my new adapter connected, the battery wouldn't charge so I removed it and put it back thinking that would help the computer to pick it up.  Now no battery is detected whatsoever.  There's is no reason for my battery ot be dead as is has very little use.

Any suggestions as to how i can get my computer to detect the battery?  I have cleaned the terminals, and all that but still no go.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can consider trying a new battery, but it's more likely you have a faulty system board.

When an older lithium battery is completely discharged and then allowed to stand without recharging, the internal voltage can drop to a point where the on-board smart circuity thinks it's DOA, and will not allow a recharge. To double check your system, see if you can find someone with the same system and try your battery in theirs.
