D500 processor makes strange sounds

Since a few days my D500 makes a strange sound when the processor is idle. It's a high pitch sound, not very loud but because it's on and off it's pretty annoying. Anybody else have this and is there a fix?

Thx

I have the D600 and I hear shirping noises from the CPU side. Once in a while, I get a louder high pitch noise.

I don't think there is a fix for it :(

RS66,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Look for an option in your bios called "Smart CPU".
If you have that option, disable it for both the battery and AC adapter.
Unplug your AC Adapter from the electrical outlet, do you still have the noise?
Run the system on AC and remove the battery, do you still have the noise?
Remove all CRUs like your HD, Floppy, CDROM drive, PCMCIA Cards, and all external devices.
Then attach the AC adapter and turn the system on, do you still have the noise?
Try turning off different devices in your system bios, like the modem, network card, wireless cards, Intel Speed step, to see if one of those features is causing the noise.
