D620 Hard Drive Swap Help
Hello,
I currently have a D620 Core Duo 1.66 GHz T2300 running Win7 Pro.
The current laptop was damaged (broken hinge) and am worried any more "accidents" might cause loss of computer and with it loss of drawing program AutoCAD and autodesk will not send new install disk on older programs want you to upgrade ($2000+) can not afford that right now.
I would like to get another D620 and switch out hard drives does "new" laptop needed to be an exact match? core duo, 1.66GHz, T2300,? if not what items HAVE to match for a seamless "plug & play" swap?
If you need more info/ specs. please let me know many thanks
Cheryl

Why not just replace the hinge? And if you can't get the software any longer be sure you have an image backup on an external hard drive.

The drive should work in any D620 system.

The hinge appears to be an intergrated part of the casing I originally thought it was the plastic hinge/button cover that was broke but I when went to replace that I found it was the metal hinge that was covered by the plastic
My husband likes the D620 and uses the AutoCAD more than I so want to give him a dedicated "work" laptop that's sans my "stuff", so figured 2 birds one stone.
I did see on another forum post that I need to make sure the graphics card in the new 620 is not an nvidia since the old one has the original intergrated graphics card that came stoc on Dell 620s.
I'm also only looking at 620s that have Win 7 already running on them as a precaution against any conflicts.
So......Any D620, Any processor type (core duo, core 2 or core 2 duo) or Any speed (1.66, 1.83 or 2.0) , will accept the present 620 HD I have with no problems of having to go and change any settings?
I just want to switch hard drives and go..
Thanks Again
