D630: 1) the smart card slot beneath battery??? is this a 3G card compatable slot, 2) can't get an external Huawei USB 3G card to be recognosed as an alternative to 1)

Good day all, i have a D630 which has a smart card slot beneath the battery, ive tried inserting my data card, and while it fits, it is not recognised (at all) by any of the compaonents, 2) in desparation, i tried my external USB 3G card (which works perfectly on various other Dell laptops) without any luck, any suggestions please on 1 or 2 above, many thanks  Gordon in South Africa
