DDR3 on a DDR3L slot
Hi everyone,
I currently have a Inspiron 3421, which runs on DDR3L, my friend just gave me a DDR3 4GB Kingston 1600mhz SODIMM memory. My concern is, can the DDR3 runs on a DDR3L slot without any problems occurring? Do i need to do anything in BIOS? Or the DDR3 will not work on the DDR3L slot.
Thanks in advance!!!

Some boards can run DDR-3 in place of DDR-3L, others cannot. DO NOT mix the two - if you decide to use the DDR-3 you'll need to remove the existing RAM.

No - either the RAM will work or it won't. If it doesn't, there's nothing you can do to make it work.

You should consider trading the DDR3 stick for DDR3L. DDR3L uses less power so you could squeeze out some more time when on battery.
Some of the newer Intel CPUs require DDR3L as well so keep that in mind.

Where to swap? Any recommendation? My laptop is aged, it might wear out in a couple of years, so do you think it is a good investment to buy a 4GB RAM for it (DDR3)? But those new laptops out there are running DDR3L, so i cant bring it forward onto my new laptop. Do you all think it's worth it?
