DELL LATITUDE D630 - NO WIFI, AFTER HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT

i have a referbished "  DELL LATITUDE D630"  laptop.

i had to replace the old hard drive (80 GB) and bought a new 230 GB WD Harddrive.

the repalcent and O/S install went find, exept now the - - I have NO WIFI, AFTER HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT.

Since I have no Wi_FI - I didnt install any drivers after the Windows XP Install Disk.

I can see a "  1394 Network Connection at it said it was connected at 400 MBps, but could not get to any web pages.

Went to internet explorer 6.0 and typed in www.google.com, and it said:

MS INTERNET EXPLORER- INTERNET EXPLORER COULD NOT OPEN THE SEARCH PAGE.

Any suggestions would be very helpful, as I am trying to take a computer class on the computer and hove to down load the test.

Thanks in advance,

Computer Geek,

Your laptop came with either the Dell wireless 1390 or the Intel 4965. You can get the driver from the drivers download page.

Re: DELL LATITUDE D630 - NO WIFI, AFTER HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT

Hi Computer-Geek,

This could be a wireless drivers issue.

To isolate the issue, check the status in Safemode with networking. Restart the computer and tap F8 at Dell logo. Select Safemode with networking.Check if the wireless works in Safemode with networking.

Let me know the Wireless card installed on the computer. Follow the steps below to check which network card you have in the machine:

  • Find the My Computer icon. My Computer is installed either on the Windows desktop or on the Windows Start Menu.
  • Right-click My Computer and select the Properties option from the pop-up menu that appears. A new System Properties window will appear on the screen.
  • Click the Hardware tab in the System Properties window.
  • Click the Device Manager button located near the top of this window. A new Device Manager window will appear on the screen.
  • In the Device Manager window, a list of hardware components installed on the computer is shown. Open the "Network adapters" item in the list by clicking the "+" sign located to the left of the icon. The Network adapters section of the window will expand to reveal a list of all network adapters installed on the computer.

Kindly let me know the Network card installed so that I can find out the correct drivers.

Awaiting your response!

Thanks & Regards

Re: DELL LATITUDE D630 - NO WIFI, AFTER HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT

Yeah, I resolved that issue by Purchacing a External Linksys WI_FI Adaptor and driver CD Combo, and then was able to connect at the local Wi-Fi.  ( i did not have internet at home, or a Eithernet Cable ).

However, at this point:  I was able to update Windows XP Pro w/ SP3, and Updated IE to IE 8.0.

However, I was not able to down load Windows Security Essentials, as the Version of Window XP was not genuine.

The error message was :  This Version of Window XP was not genuine.  click here to resolve."

but I was not able to resolve it by following these directions.

I suspect that since I re-installed the O/S a second time Micro soft suspects me of installing on a different Computer - rather than a New Hard Drive.

What should I do, to resolve that?

Re: DELL LATITUDE D630 - NO WIFI, AFTER HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT

After replacing the Hard drive on the Dell Latitude D630 laptop, and re-installing the O/S (WIN XP Pro)  .

every thing when OK.  EXCEPT:  Getting a mesage:  WINDOWS IS NOT GENUINE.

How can I resolve that ?  Its a Refurbished DELL laptop purchached from TIGAR-DIRECT, (Refurbished - off lease).

should I contact Tigar Direct?  or MS ?

Im sure I will need to expalin that I had to replace Hard drive , and reinstall O/S.

Re: DELL LATITUDE D630 - NO WIFI, AFTER HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT

Hi Spence T,

May I know what disk are you using to reinstall Operating system?

If we install the operating system with Dell OEM version disks, the computer would not ask for a product key. For the operating system with the retail version, the key would be on the disk.

Dell OEM disks are pre-activated.

Awaiting your response!

Re: DELL LATITUDE D630 - NO WIFI, AFTER HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT

In regards to your question about the O/S if its a OEM, i offer the following information:

The PC is a Dell Latitude D630 Notebook PC - Intel Processor  1 or 2GB DDR2 Ram , ( by Owner : New Replaced 230 GB HDD)    CD Player   LCD Dispaly, Windows XP Pro      - Off-Lease.

came with Windows Off Lease Disk.

purchaced from Tigar Direct - Dell - Off Lease Computer .

The term "Off-Lease" refers to a product that has been leased to, and used by, a customer, then returned to the leasing agent at the end of the lease period (typically 2 to 3 years).

The Limited warranty is for 3 months for parts and 3 months for labor.

Re: DELL LATITUDE D630 - NO WIFI, AFTER HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT

Still getting that Windows is not Genuin Pop-up.   Checked out the Operating System CD/DVD and it absolutly says:  "  For Refirbished PC's"  I assume that I put in the Product Key Some Where, and Activate the Win XP Software - but I m not really sure if I saw that web site, window or POP-up.  However, I think I put in the Product KEY when I installed the Software.  What should I do now?
