DELL XPS 15 9560 dead

Hi All,

Here is what happened

1) I bought a DELL XPS 15 9560 few days ago.

2) Today, the system prompted for some pending updates and restart, so, I went ahead and re-started it.

3) After reboot and installing updates, there is no network connection. The system says, there are no connections available. I checked the networking device, there are no errors and everything is fine.

4) I read online that there might be an incompatible driver which got installed as part of the update which is resulting in the networking (WiFi) driver to not work correctly.

5) So, I decided to reset the system to factory defaults.

6) Upon resetting the system to factory defaults, it is not booting at all. A blue screen comes windows (BSOD) and mentions on an error code: INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE.

After step 3 I did run diagnostics on the system and there was a failed test:
How should I proceed to resolve this?

Run the Dell diagnostics on the hard drive (or SSD) - it looks like the drive is bad.  If you see a failure code beginning with 2000-0142 or similar, the drive is bad.  It's up to you whether to accept a repair (replacement drive) or ask for a replacement system (which you can do for the first 30 days after the system ships).

To get to the diagnostics, F12 at powerup.

Depending on your system and its age, doing a factory reset may have put it almost anywhere.

For now, do you have any recovery or install media you could boot to?  If not, download the Win 10 install media or possibly an OS image from Dell.

The system is about a 8 days old. Let me try to get a new  OS image from Dell, however, I am afraid that will be no good either.

Running DELL diagnostics from the BIOS on the SSD didn't reveal any errors. However, a hardware scan from SupportAssist failed with the earlier mentioned (in the original post) error.

I'd suggest you run chkdsk /f /r in the command prompt(Admin) and see if that will make a difference. Please right click the windows logo, select Command Prompt (Admin), type chkdsk /f /r and then enter.

You need to make sure you ran the extended test (which shows up after the quick tests run).  The quick test does not do a read on the entire device.

Thanks, already did that. It doesn't report any errors.

1. Power off system.

2. Power on system, quickly start tapping F12 key continuously until you see the Preparing one time boot menu in the top right corner of the screen. In boot menu, stroll down to Diagnostic and then click it. After quick tests, click Hard drive, and then Thorough Test Mode ( Extended Test), see image below:

On boot up, this is where I am stuck - I am unable to get past this. Whatever recovery option I try - it ends up here.

You could run chkdsk /r from the command prompt(Admin) to see if it resolves the issue. It usually take a short time to complete. By the way, does the computer boot into windows and runs great ? Does it freeze a lot, lag or run very slow?

My system doesn't boot at all.

I posted the blue screen (screen-shot) a few posts above, here it is again.

 ' Whatever recovery option I try "

By any chance, you created a windows 10 recovery flash drive, furthermore the recovery option you're referring to is in the Advanced Repair Options - see image below) ?

April 16th, 2017 16:00

Yes, the advanced repair options were through that screen

I am in the process of creating a windows 10 recovery flash drive. I'll update on how that goes.
