Dead Inspiron

one morning, the screen is black. Won't start. Won't do safe mode. Was able to get into diagnostic.

During a test labeled "Pre-boot System Assessment Build 4129" received an Error Message:

"Error Code 0146.

Msg: Error Code 2000-0146

Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test log contains previous errors."

Can anyone help ?  thanks, Rich V.

Hi Rich,

2000-0146 error again during the hardware diagnostics indicates hard drive failure. I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if you are able to switch on the system.

  1. Switch off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
  3. Remove the battery from the computer.
  4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if you are able to switch on the system.

If the system boots up then you can back up the data. If the system does not boot up then contact a local tech to recover the data and then go for new hard drive.
