Dell Inspiron 1520 Optical Disk Drive

Hi, Not too tech savvy and I'm sure there's an easy solution to this.

Problem is that i'm in the situation where my disk drive will not read/write so I have purchased a Samsung SE 208 CD/DVD External Reader/Writer. It reads fine, no problem but when I attempt to burn a disc, nothing happens because the pc's drive drawer slides out and therefore I assume it's preventing the ext. burner from starting.

Would be extremely grateful if somebody can help me with this one by pointing me in the right direction.

OS is Windows Vista.
