Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 lagging for no reason.

Hi,

My laptop for the past few days has suddenly been lagging mysteriously for no valid reasons. It started almost overnight with no real reason. Games that I used to be able to run at 60-70 FPS at medium/high graphics settings suddenly only gave me 20-30 even after I turned all my game settings down to very low. Also, when i'm running iTunes and playing music there's a lot of tearing in the songs due to lag which never happened till the past few days. I've already done a Windows 8 Refresh but to no avail. I've run the system diagnostics on both hardware, symptom and software in Dell support but all the tests say that there's nothing wrong with my computer.

Is there any solutions to this? Or would I most likely have to get an internal upgrade on my laptop?

Thanks

Hi jeffyauu,

I would suggest you to boot in ‘Safe Mode’ and check if the issue persists. You may refer to the link: http://dell.to/18ejp0u.

Please paste the screenshot of ‘Device Manager’ with ‘Display Adapters’ expanded.

  • Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen.
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’.
  • Click > sign next to ‘Display Adapters’.

You may update the system BIOS from the link: http://dell.to/1a3XS1h.

Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that:
*Battery is 10%> or >10% charged
*Battery charger should be connected
*No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected.
*All other programs should be closed and documents saved

Keep me posted with the information. I will be glad to assist you.

Thanks & Regards

Hi AMOGH

I just updated the BIOS but I haven't played a game or anything since yet so I'll update you when I do to check performance issues, but I just was wondering what you meant by.

  • Click > sign next to ‘Display Adapters’

I understand you want me to look at my display adapters in Device Manager but i'm not quite sure what exactly that sentence meant.

Thanks for the help!

Hi jeffyauu,

The sign ‘>’ can be seen in ‘Device Manager’ in front of every category of drivers and it shows all the drivers listed under a particular category, when clicked. For example in your case the category is ‘Display Adapters’.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reply for any further assistance.

AH sorry I misread what you meant. Here I've attached a screenshot in the imgur link below of my device manager.

Hi jeffyauu,

Thank you for the information. I would suggest you to completely uninstall and reinstall both the graphics drivers. Please follow the steps below:

  • Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen.
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’.
  • Click > sign next to ‘Display Adapters’.
  • Right click the entry listed under ‘Display Adapters’ and click ‘uninstall’.

However, you need to follow the correct order (reinstall Intel drivers first followed by AMD drivers) as the system is working on ‘Switchable Graphics Technology’. You may refer to the links:

Keep me posted with the results. I will be glad to assist further.

AMOGH

Should I uninstall the Intel one and then reinstall it immediately after before uninstalling/reinstalling the AMD one? Or should I uninstall both and then reinstall them both one after the other?

Hi Jeffyauu,

I would suggest you to uninstall both the drivers.  Install the Intel driver first and then install the AMD driver.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further questions.
