Dell Inspiron 17-3737 - Memory Upgrade

Hi

I have the Dell Inspiron 17-3737 with 6GB RAM in currently (i5-4200U Processor). I wish to upgrade the RAM to 16GB (Using 2x 8GB sticks). I have read that this specific laptop only supports up to 8GB RAM in some places and it works with more than 8GB in other places/websites/forums. If the 16GB was to not work due to limitations, can the memory be upgraded using just 1 stick of 8GB or will I have to use 2x 4GB sticks?

Many Thanks
