Dell Inspiron 17R -- Blue Screen of Death
I have a Dell Inspiron 17R that is approximately 3 years old. I have had very little problems with it.
In the last few months, I have had several instances of freezing and the "Blue Screen of Death." It has happened about 4-5 times.
I had this happen with one of my previous Dell desktops. It was at least 6 years ago. I had an extended warranty on that one and they helped me fix it. I just remember it was very involved.
What exactly does this mean and what do I do about it? I don't want my hard drive crashing and losing all my info.
Thanks.

Hi Janet
The freezing and error messages can be a sign of possible hardware failures but they don't have be. Without knowing the exact error messages I can't say what could be causing it, but if doesn't have to mean that any hardware is at fault.
The following document may prove helpful. It gives suggestions for troubleshooting issues similar to what you are seeing with your notebook.
I also suggest running diagnostics; these are tests that can detect if there is something wrong with the notebook. You can find more about the diagnostics here.
If you haven't already done so, please save your personal documents, photos, and other information. This could be from burning to a DVD or CD disk, saving your files to a USB memory stick or an external hard drive.
If you continue to have problems please reply here, please include the exact error messages of any blue screens, please include any errors given by the diagnostics and we can go from there.
