Dell Inspiron 710 won't boot
The power light is on but when I press the start button I only get a couple flashes of the lock lights, the hard-drive light comes on for a second or two, and then nothing. Is there a solution that will fix it or at least diagnose the problem?

Try reseating the memory module(s). IF that doesn't work, verify that the LED on the AC adapter is ON. If it's not, replace the adapter with a new one. Try without the battery - if it'll power up and run without a battery, replace the battery with a new one.
If none of the foregoing provide results, the mainboard is toast - replace it.
