Dell Inspiron 7577 Gaming 1060 with Max Q technology, unable to install latest drivers

Jump to solution

Only got my new Dell Inspiron this week.

Looked forward to playing among other games Battlefield 1. Unfortunately it does a driver check and the latest drivers on the Dell website are too old to run the game. Tried updating via the Geforce experience and by downloading manual drivers, but even though it identifies the card and current version in the experience when it tries and installs it says no compatible hardware found.

I love the laptop otherwise, but when you spend that much you expect to play the latest games.

There looks to be some complex fixes but would rather hope there is a simpler solution.

1060 Max-Q Driver updates

Response By Email (Ray) (10/04/2017 10:26 AM)

Hi Kenneth,

My name is Ray and your support case was escalated to me for review. I can confirm this device is currently not supported by any of the current NVIDIA reference drivers yet. This is not uncommon for new platforms that was recently released and have not been added to our reference drivers yet. I discussed with our development team and the next public notebook driver we release should have support for this device. In the meantime you'll want to use the driver provided by Dell and look for the next NVIDIA reference driver update.

Best regards,

Ray

[04:28:43 AM]Hi, my name is Syed. How may I help you?

[04:29:04 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: 1060 Max-Q not supported by Nvidia drivers. Battlefield One requires the newest drivers to play.

[04:29:32 AM]Syed: Hi Kenneth

[04:29:38 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: The only drivers I can use are outdated ones from dell.

[04:29:40 AM]Syed: We don't have the drivers for Max Q yet.

[04:29:47 AM]Syed: But I can have it passed along to the right team.

[04:29:54 AM]Syed: I am not sure, if will be developing one or not.

[04:30:36 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: I mean its just an existing nvidia card with a lower power target

[04:34:09 AM]Syed: I'll have to check a few details on your computer. Please provide me System Information:

Press Windows(Key) + R.

Type MSInfo32 and press Enter.

In the MSInfo diagnostic window, click File, then Save.

When the Save As window appears, choose Desktop.

Name the file "MSInfo" and click Save and attach it in this chat.

[04:36:49 AM]Syed: Thank you. I needed HW ID of the card, I think it has to be added in inf file of the driver.

[04:36:59 AM]Syed: I'll have this case escalated, and someone from L2 team will keep you posted on this.

[04:37:34 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: Thank you. I can confirm the 1080, and 1070 max q variants are in the INF but not the 1060 version

[04:38:41 AM]Syed: Also, since this is a dell computer, can you help with the service tag please ?

[04:39:04 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: JG0HGH2

[04:39:47 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: It is their new Inspiron 7577

[04:40:03 AM]Syed: Thank you. Is there anything else apart from this , I can help you with ?

[04:41:29 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: No just trying to play games such as Battlefield 1 which run a driver check and refuse to start with out a newer version

[04:41:42 AM]Syed: Yea, I understand sorry about that.

[04:42:00 AM]Syed: Please don't worry, I'll have this escalated as soon as I can and you'll be notified on this via email.

[04:42:09 AM]Syed: Is this Email good to get back to you? kennypinksliebert@ymail.com

[04:42:38 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: Thank you. I noticed many people commenting on this on the geforce forums and dell forums for this model.

[04:42:39 AM]Kenneth Pinks-Liebert: and yes

[04:45:02 AM]Syed: Thank you, Kenneth.

[04:45:06 AM]Syed: You have a good one!

I am in the exact same situation as you.  Besides the Battlefield 1 issue, I am disappointed that we are unable to use Nvidia Whisper Mode, which becomes available with the current Nvidia drivers.  This could be a gamechanger in regards to quiet gaming performace.

Hi redwebo,

Thanks for posting.

In researching this, I'm not finding much information from other users with the same complaint.  Please check to see that you've updated the BIOS and reinstalled the drivers from the support page. http://dell.to/2xNsROw

Since your system is so new, you should have software support for 30 days, please perform a system diagnostics test by pressing F12 at startup, make a note of any errors, and contact Tech support.

RE: Dell Inspiron 7577 Gaming 1060 with Max Q technology, unable to install latest drivers

Jump to solution

Hi the problem is not with my installed drivers. The problem is that the Dell graphics card drivers for the Geforce 1060 with Max Q technology are about a month out of date. Too old for Battlefield 1 to run. Dell must have something in their set up which stops the NVIDIA official drivers installing. "it says no compatible card can be recognised". Geforce experience recognises there are older Geforce drivers installed. When can we expect new Geforce drivers released by Dell?

Dell need first talk to nvidia to add the dell hardware id into theie official / generic nvidia driver.

As soon as the hardware id is in the driver package you will not have issues with installing the offical nvidia driver!

This is also discussed in the Geforce Forum!

Please! If a mod or the Support is reading this comment. Please talk to nvidia to add all needed Hardware ID´s from Inspiron 15 7000 gaming (Inspiron 7577) for next generic and offical Nvidia Drivers which can be downloaded on nvidia.com!

Following entries are only in the dell OEM Drivers and missing in the current nvidia 385.69 which means all users (incl. myself) are currently forced to use only old "DELL Nvidia Drivers"!

(This is what I found under this section, this is the part where Hardware ID has to be)

[NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.10.0]

%NVIDIA_DEV.1C20.0802.1028% = Section328, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C20&SUBSYS_08021028

%NVIDIA_DEV.1C20.0803.1028% = Section328, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C20&SUBSYS_08031028

(This is what I found under this section, this entries are the naming for the above placed Hardware ID´s)

[Strings]

DiskID1 = "NVIDIA Windows 10 (64 bit) Driver Library Installation Disk 1"

NVIDIA = "NVIDIA"

NVIDIA_A = "NVIDIA"

NVIDIA_DEV.1C20.0802.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design"

NVIDIA_DEV.1C20.0803.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design"

Those parts are actually missing in the nvidia Driver!

So Dell please give the users the freedom to use the Drivers which they want, instead forcing them to use only old OEM Drivers. The current case lowers the product expierence massivley!

Sounds promising. NVIDIA seem to update drivers frequently, so maybe not to long to wait fingers crossed.

Thanks for getting an answer from Nvidia.  This issue is a deal breaker for me if we can not get these updates directly from Nvidia to support games.  My 5 year old ASUS still updates/plays fine.  I get my 7577 next week and will watch to see if the next Nvidia update works.  If not, I am returning the laptop.

RE: Dell Inspiron 7577 Gaming 1060 with Max Q technology, unable to install latest drivers

Jump to solution

A new Nvidia driver was released, 387.92.  I ran a search on the Display.Driver\nvdmi file and found the Dell device instance now listed in the new Nvidia driver.

NVIDIA_DEV.1C20.0802.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design"

NVIDIA_DEV.1C20.0803.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design"

I have not tested the new driver yet.  Can anyone confirm that this is a stable installer?  Does this allow us to update the 7577 from Nvidia now?  Thanks.
